As we celebrate the changing of the seasons we are encouraging everyone to get dressed in your best black gothic gear and take a stroll through your local cemetery to pay your respects to your neighbors and loved ones, learn about the history of your town, and the symbolism used in memorials.
Unlike a graveyard, that is attached to a church, cemeteries were one of the first public parks, created to provide a picturesque landscape for the community that combines nature with burial sites; making cemeteries places for leisure and reflection rather than just for mourning.
COST: FREE PARTICIPANTS: Open to the public, everyone is welcome!
CEMETERY WALK GUIDELINES
Wear Black and dress to impress
Be respectful of the graves and other visitors by Keeping conversations quiet.
Save phone calls for after your visit, or step away to a parking area.
Stay on designated paths and roadways. Walking between headstones can inadvertently damage grave sites, flower arrangements, or flush markers hidden by grass.
Keep pets leashed. If pets are permitted, keep them on a short leash and clean up after them. Be mindful that not all visitors will be comfortable around animals.
Don’t let children climb on or play on grave markers.
